commentIt has been twenty years since I had any business contact with Mr. Magness, and I am glad that I never will again. I recognize that Mr. Magness may may have changed over the years, and may have learned from his errors in life, but my business with him was disastrous.
He took possession of my car for a restoration, estimating $6,000, and I paid $3200 in advance. He led me on for months, promising this and that by firm deadlines that were never met, and finally ceased answering phone calls or letters. His place of business was never open, and my car was locked up inside. I got it back ten months later by threatening legal action and camping a block away from his shop eight hours a day for a week until he finally showed up. I then ambushed him and took my car back in pieces and trash bags. Every bit of work he did had to be redone.
He swindled me. I had to decide whether to spend more time and money sueing him, but I didn't want to waste my life doing this, and in any case, he appeared to have a substance problem and to be broke, with a collapsed business. I let him take my money and counted myself lucky to be rid of him.
Again, I understand that with age may have come wisdom. Don't count on it, though. Buyer beware.
