Rate and Review Jack's Paint Place

- The worst collision repair experience ever - - - 3/28/2011 - comment
The quick an dirty for those who will not read the whole review, is that the work was horrible, communication during the repair was non-existent, I was lied to, and then I was yelled at in the parking lot by Jack himself for having "too high of expectations". I selected Jacks because I had talked to several local car enthusiast that gave it outstanding reviews. The location of the shop was inconvenient for me, and the estimate was by far the highest of bids I received. The first time I went to pick up my car I was shocked by how filthy it was. The car appeared to have been sitting for days collecting dirt and water spots. I couldn't believe that they would expect someone to pick up a vehicle and inspect the repair through all of the filth. Even though all of the dirt it was very apparent that the paint finish was very poor. There where spots where paint had pooled on the edges of the bumper, and debris under the finish. Without any further inspection they agreed that the paint finish was poor, and said that they would repaint it. The second time I was contacted saying that my car was completed I arrived to find that the car was just as dirty as the first time around. The paint finish was somewhat better, even though it did still have some dust particles under the finish, and two 5-6" scratches(on brand new paint). I continued to inspect the repaired parts, and I was amazed at how much they had neglected the details. The front grill literally fell from the bumper when I touched it, because they had not put a single fastener in to connect it to the bumper. The brake cooling ducts had been removed for paint, and when they where reinstalled glue was slopped around the edges and onto the duct trim. The badging which had been removed from the bumper had white glue (on a black car) hanging out from under the edges. When I questioned them about the glue under the badge they insisted that it was just polishing compound, because the badge connects with two pins through the bumper and doesn't use any glue. The truth is that the pins used to connect the badge are single use only. Since they had to repaint the bumper after the initial poor paint job, they chose to glue the emblem on instead of buying a new one for $16 and attaching it properly. The front quarter panel which had no fitment issues after the accident, and was only repaired because a fender tab had bent and put a tiny 1" crack in the paint, now bowed out in the middle causing it to stick out nearly 1/4 of an inch further than the door. The rust inhibiting underbody coating which I had requested to have repaired, and which had been included in the itemized repair receipt had not been repaired in any way. On top of all the shoddy repairs they had managed to deliver several new large scratches, and horrible swirl marks from their buffer along the way. After I pointed out all of these things they took the car back in to one of their repair bays so that they could attach the grill, buff the scratches they had put in the new paint, and remove the glue which had been slopped around the brake cooling ducts. After about an hour of waiting while they tried to do some easy quick fixes they brought my car back out. One of the scratches came out perfectly, but the other was too deep and still shows. Some of the glue came off, but some of the globs of glue couldn't be removed. The grill was attached, but only by about half as many fasteners as had been used in the factory. When I asked them what they where going to do about unresolved issues the worker went and got Jack (the owner) and had him come out to look at the repair. Jack's statement was that they had already done the repair twice and that my expectations where too high. He said they would do nothing more on the car. I called my insurance USAA (who is amazing BTW) and they said to take the car home and they would send out one of their inspectors to start a complaint against the shop and initiate a repair at another shop. As Jack left he proceeded to drive up and roll his window down, yell at me for several minutes about how I don't know anything. Then when I reminded him that I was very involved in the local car community and that I would be spreading the word and posting on line he told me that his reputation was immune to my reviews and that nothing I could do would hurt his business. There was another customer there at the same time that was obviously unhappy with his repair, but he got bullied into accepting the defects. Stay away form Jack's. The quality of repair is poor, and contrary to their advertising they will not repair your car to the pre collision state. In fact when I took my car in for repair the damage was minimal enough that most people couldn't look at the car and tell it had been in a collision, but now I have all sorts of new issues that didn't exist before the repair.
